Maori Art, Jewellery and Taonga
We are proud to be able to offer you high quality, unique Maori carvings, art, sculpture, jewellery and replica artefacts for sale direct from established Maori artist, Wiremu Wilson-Diamond.
Our aim is to create taonga that will become a treasured heirloom for your family and to positively affect the energy of a space through art.
Specialists in Traditional Maori Tools and Replica Artefacts
We are specialists in the use and construction of Maori woodworking tools such as adze (toki) and chisels (whao) - stone tools and jewellery based on ancient artefacts. The range of Maori art and taonga for sale also includes:-
- Maori greenstone (pounamu) and whalebone jewellery
- Contemporary and traditional Maori carvings and garden sculpture
- Maori weaponry including taiaha, patu and tewhatewha
- Hand air-brushed graffiti-style apparel such as t-shirts and hats
- Framed resin artwork
- and our namesake the waka huia or treasure box
Everything you see here and in our on-line store is made either by or in collaboration with Wiremu Wilson-Diamond whose replica artefacts appear in a number of high profile public and private collections. You can see Wiremu's full resume in the About Us section of this website.
Yes we do Commissions
We also do commissions - including 21st keys and whalebone carvings. You can see some examples of these on our on-line shop. Contact us if you would like something custom-made but please understand that we need time to produce something so special. A 50% deposit is required for all commission work.
Air-brushed apparel
We also have a range of hand air-brushed apparel such as hats and t-shirts. We can custom-make designs for your group or business or produce a one-off art piece with you - see our workshops section for more information.
Public Art Projects
Wiremu has always had an interest in sculpture and large works and has been commissioned to create a number of large public works in the past which have included:
• The Henderson Library Entrance – this took 2 years and was completed in 2006
• Howick Library Centre Sculpture – completed 2003
• Glen Eden Library Sculpture – completed 2004
Since moving to Northland Wiremu was successful in winning a contract for Kawakawa beautification. This project, which is funded by FNDC, is staged and involves the construction of 4 meter high pou and carved archway which will provide the entry to the footbridge at Kawakawa.
Participants in our Full Day Tours can become a part of this public art project – and therefore become a part of the beautification of Kawakawa.
