Kawakawa Balm

$12.00
SKU: khb1

Kawakawa is a sacred plant that has been used by Maori for centuries for both internal and external complaints.  All our products are totally natural and chemical free.  We follow Maori protocols for rongoa (traditional Maori medicine) when harvesting the kawakawa plant  and combine it with other healing modalities such as crystals and energy healing. The inclusion of calendula and olive oil adds even more incredible healing properties.  As a mother of 2 young children I have made these suitable (and ideal for) children.

We have had some wonderful results with both topical skin conditions such as eczema as well as muscular complaints such as rheumatism, when it is massaged onto and into the body.

We have had particularly amazing results in treating eczema with this balm.  People who have had this skin problem for over 20 years have used the balm and their eczema has disappeared.  I also use it as an everyday nappy cream for my baby and she has never had nappy rash.

The balm costs $12 for a 30g jar.  please email melissa@newzealandmaoriart.co.nz if you would like to order some rather than use this online shop as the postage cost is less than $5.

I currently make three products, Kawakawa Healing Balm, Kawakawa Winter Balm and NEW FROM MARHC 2012 - Kawakawa Massage Balm

Kawakawa Healing Balm

This all-purpose healing balm is suitable for treating eczema, nappy rash, boils, cuts, wounds, insect bites, psoriasis as well as helping ease muscular aches, rheumatism and arthritis.  The home-made calendula oil is also a wonderful skin treatment while the olive and sweet almond oil and beeswax provide Vitamin E and moisturising qualities.

Kawakawa Winter Balm

This seasonal balm has been developed to help relieve some of the common wintery ailments such as colds, coughs and muscular aches and pains. Kawakawa oil is combined with essential oils of eucalyptus, tea tree and lavender to help clear the passages, reduce temperature, alleviate discomfort, aid sleep and increase immunity. I make both a child strength and adult strength version.  MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS.

Kawakawa Massage Balm - NEW FROM MARCH 2012

After having such wonderful results on muscular complaints such as rheumatism I decided to develop a balm specifically for massage.  I have included a mix of essential oils which have been specifically chosen for their calming and nurturing qualities.

About the Ingredients and Making Process

I make my own kawakawa oil with Cold Pressed Olive oil and my own calendula oil with sweet almond oil.  The calendulas are grown from seed in my garden.  All Maori protocols are followed when collecting the leaves.  Traditional Maori medicine is known as rongoa.  I also add other healing energies (including crystals) and a lot of love during the making process.

How to use our balms

Here are some hints and ideas on how you can use our balms that I would like to share with you. I am a mother of two young children and can safely recommend the kawakawa balm on babies as young as newborn (Do not use Kawakawa Winter Balm on babies until they are 3 months +).
Babies & newborn
- I use the balm every day when changing my baby’s nappy and have done so ever since she was born – she has never had nappy rash and a 30g jar can last me a month so it goes a long way.
- I have also used it on those little creases that can get red from moisture such as under the neck and it gets rid of them within hours
- Great against infantile eczema – just rub onto affected areas.
Coughs, colds & flus
- Rub Kawakawa winter balm onto chest, back and soles of feet (then cover with socks). Particularly good just prior to bed as the lavender helps give adults and children a long and restful sleep.
- Rub some balm onto your chest – works well for a phlegmy cough.  If possible, cover for a few minutes with a hot flannel or a hot water bottle for an even more relaxing treatment.
- Put a ‘knob’ of the winter balm into a hot steamy bath after you have finished running it.  The kawakawa will ease your aching bones while the essential oils will help your other symptoms.
- The essential oils in the balm improve immunity so it is a good idea (and safe) to rub a little on every day in the winter.  I tend to use it just prior to sleep whether I or my children have a cold or not as it helps us all sleep through the night.
Other - Use the Kawakawa balm as a lip balm, massaging balm or to help cuts and wounds heal
