Workshop Information
Maori Treasures Workshop
What better souvenir of your travels - something you have actually made yourself. Make a taonga (treasure) that you can keep as a lasting momento of your experience or create a gift for someone special that tells their story and has been created just for them.
Learn about and experience using pre-European stone tools and cordage techniques. Make your own taonga (treasure) – a fish hook necklace or koauau (small flute) while hearing about the history and customs of maori art and society. Picture 3 on the Tours & Workshops picture gallery shows the koauau that can be made. During a 2 1/2 hour workshop you can make a flute like the third one along, which is 2D in style.
10am or 2pm Monday to Sunday; Duration – 2 ½ hours; Price - $85 per person
Minimum 2 people, Maximum 10. Not suitable for children under 12.
Pre-booking essential
NEW FROM DECEMBER 2011 - We are now also offering a 4 hour version of this workshop where people with medium to high carving experience (or musicians) can make a 3D version of the flute, like the two pictured on our Tours & Workshops gallery. The cost for a 4 hour workshop is $150. Please contact us for times.
